Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to what people actually ask before hiring a security company. If your question is not here, call us and ask it.
Hiring us
How quickly can you put an officer on site?
Usually within four hours inside Houston city limits, and often faster. Fire watch and emergency cover are almost always same day. Call rather than email if you need someone today.
Is there a minimum booking?
Four hours for a posted officer. Mobile patrol is quoted per site rather than per hour, based on how many visits per night you want.
Do you require a long contract?
No. We take one-night bookings, short-term cover and ongoing contracts. If the work is straightforward we will not put you through a drawn-out procurement process.
How do you charge, and how do I pay?
Hourly for posted officers, per site for mobile patrol, per call for alarm response. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Zelle and Venmo.
Do you work with government and school districts?
Yes. Ranger Security is a Choice Partners Cooperative vendor, which lets school districts, municipalities and other public bodies contract with us through an existing co-operative purchasing agreement rather than running a fresh procurement.
Our officers
Are your officers licensed?
Every officer holds a current licence from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Unarmed officers are Level II, commissioned armed officers are Level III, and personal protection officers are Level IV. Ranger Security operates under company licence B19232.
How are officers screened?
Criminal background check, employment verification and reference checks before anyone is placed on a site. Officers are uniformed, carry visible identification and are trained to de-escalate rather than escalate.
Are your officers insured?
All personnel are fully insured and bonded. Certificates of insurance are provided on request for your records or your own insurer.
Do I need armed or unarmed officers?
It depends on what is at risk and what has happened on the site before. Cash, controlled substances and high-value inventory usually justify an armed post. For most properties, a visible unarmed officer is enough. We will tell you honestly which one you need.
On the job
What reporting do I get?
Time-stamped patrol logs for every visit and a written incident report the same shift when something happens. You are never taking our word for whether a patrol took place.
Can you follow our own procedures?
Yes. We agree written post orders with you before the first shift, covering what officers do, who they contact and in what order. If your venue or building already has procedures, we work to those.
What happens if there is an incident?
The officer secures the area, contacts law enforcement where required, notifies your named contact, and files a written report. Serious incidents are escalated to a supervisor immediately.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Se habla espanol. Tell us if a site needs bilingual officers and we will staff it accordingly.
Working for us
Can I apply without a Texas security licence?
Yes. Apply anyway. If you are the right fit we will guide you through Level II certification.
What shifts are available?
Days, evenings and overnights, full time and part time. Tell us your preference on the application and we will match you where we can.
What happens after I apply?
You get an email confirming we have your application. If your experience matches an open post, someone calls you on the number you provided, so keep your phone to hand.
